The Cosy TV-Shows to Watch This Spring and Summer

Seasonal depression season is over, the sun is shining a lot and things are looking up! As soon as the summer season starts, I leave my procedurals behind and prefer to be whisked away to someplace bright, sweet and fun!

Today I'm sharing my favorite TV shows that are sunny, wholesome and cute!

1. Virgin River (7 seasons, ongoing)
Cosy elements: Small town, lake, mountains, romance, community

Mel is a nurse trying to find some peace and quiet by taking a job out in the countryside. However, she soon finds out that a small town doesn't mean there is nothing going on! Mel meets a lot of different people, some become friends, some enemies (although almost always temporarily) and one man in particular who catches her eye.

I ADORE everyone in the city of Virgin River. This show feels like being let into a community and soon you'll be rooting for all members! And with 7 seasons (and potentially more coming), you can spend a deliciously long time visiting Virgin River.

2. Heartland (19 seasons, ongoing)
Cosy elements: Horses, close knit family, multi generational, ranch life

Since Amy's mom died, it's on her to keep the Heartland ranch running together with her grandfather. Even though Amy is amazing with horses, it's the people in her life who cause the most chaos. With her estranged dad, a lost foster kid, a city-loving sister and her friends, there is always something going on in this show.

This show has been such a comfort to me over the years! Because the show has a whopping 19 seasons, the characters start to feel like family. Don't worry, you don't have to watch all 19 seasons in one go. Or at all! But watching the earlier seasons at least is very worth it. The nature shots are absolutely stunning and an episode of this show always makes me want to get outside.

3. Chesapeake Shores (6 seasons, closed ending)
Cosy elements: Close knit family, beach town, Hallmark, romance, music.

When Abby O'Brien visits her family in the beach town of Chesapeake Shores where she grew up, she is in for a lot of drama caused by every generation in her family.

Abby's sisters are perhaps my favorite wholesome tv-characters. One owns a bookshop and the other tries to open a Bed and Breakfast. Could the summer vibes be any better? Actually yes, because there are so many beach scenes and shots that this will get you in a summer mood, whether you like it or not!

4. Sullivan's Crossing (4 seasons, ongoing)
Cosy elements: Lake, mountain, romance, small town, cast.

Maggie is a neurosurgeon who, after her boss is arrested for fraud by the FBI, goes home to the lakeside park owned by her estranged dad. When legal drama keeps her in Sullivan's Crossing, she gets back in touch with old friends but also struggles to repair relationships with some of the people in town.

This is my most recent cosy find. It is based on books from the writer who also wrote Virgin River and thankfully my high expectations were met! A great cast with faces you'll recognize from Virgin River and Gilmore Girls, adding to the whole amazing setting and interesting storylines.

5. Sweet Magnolias (4 seasons, ongoing)
Cosy elements: strong friendship, small town, family life, romance.

Sweet Magnolias follows three women as they navigate life as parents, spouses, business owners and most importantly: best friends. And of course, their families also get up to lots of stuff in their small town. I actually found their kids stories some of the most interesting in the series!

The show really has aspects for everyone, at any age. So it's worth trying to see if you get as quickly invested into the story as I did. Or if you are looking for something to watch with a bigger group: I recommend starting with this one. And the visuals are so colorful and cheerful, it also makes for a very fun background show!

6. The Flatshare (1 season, closed ending)
Cosy elements: romance, charity, community, beach, British.

Tiffany and Leon live together, but they've never met. Leon uses the apartment during the day, Tiffany at night. The only way they can afford to live. Communicating mostly via post-its, they slowly learn more about each other...

I had already read the book this show was based on and absolutely loved it, so I was a little scared my enjoyment might be tainted if the show was bad. Thankfully the show was super cute!! A lovely, wholesome one season show!

7. Hart of Dixie (4 seasons, ended)
Cosy elements: Quirky characters, found family, small town, southern America, romance, music, comedy

Zoe Hart wants to be a surgeon, unfortunately the only way to do that, is to first become a GP. And the only town that'll have her, is Bluebell. So she moves to the small Alabama town, quickly getting a little too involved in the small towns politics, befriending the mayor and making a couple important enemies.

This show is so quirky but in the most charming way. It's silly and southern and just one big ray of sunshine! With drama of course. The show has great character development, so even if you don't like it just from the pilot, give it a couple episodes to see if you really don't like it! It took me years before I gave the show a chance and now I wish I'd watched it sooner! I love rewatching episodes when I need a serotonin boost!

Short TV Shows and Mini-Series to Binge-Watch in a Single Weekend

As an introvert, one of my favorite ways to relax on the weekend is binge watching a show. Sometimes chores are easier to do when there's another episode waiting on the other end. And sometimes I need a day or two to 'rot in bed' with some entertainment. Yes, I am very glad bed rotting has become a trend, thank you for asking ;) So today I want to share with you my favorite tv-shows and mini-series you can binge in one weekend! These are shows I've watched in one or two days and found entertaining throughout. They also have a satisfying ending, so you don't end up on Monday yearning for more ;). As always, I keep this list updated when I find more. If you have any show that should be on this list, please share it with everyone in the comment section!
